I established an accounting practice in 1973. I am in partnership with my brother and we currently employ 13 full-time staff. I have acquired a detailed and wide ranging knowledge of all aspects of accountancy, including taxation, auditing, management consultancy, project development, insolvency, business sale and acquisition and business plan preparation for LEDU, Industrial Development Board, Department of Agriculture, European Community, International Fund for Ireland and other financial institutions.

I was a member of the Derry City Council Finance and General Purpose Committee for 16 years to 1989, including 5 years as Chairman. This Committee approves and monitors all Council expenditure both revenue and capital and strikes the district rate each year.

I was a member of the Western Education & Library Board from 1973 to 1981. I served on the Finance and General Purposes Committee and a wide range of Management Committees for both schools and youth centres.

In 1995 I was appointed to serve for a 3 year term as a member of the Academic Council of the Irish School of Ecumenics. This position is concerned with Educational Policy decision making.
